The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was rehabilitating the wastewater lagoon at Wappapello Lake in Wayne County, Missouri. The existing pump controls were weathered, post-mounted enclosures at the lagoon’s edge. The project specifications required a UL 508A listed control panel for the new vault waste and bulk recirculation tank pump, built to federal submittal standards, able to run on a backup generator, keep alarms alive through a power loss, and safely accept float signals from the wet well.
Key Requirements
UL 508A listed control panel per project specifications
Control a 2 HP submersible tank pump
Accept a portable generator through a transfer switch
Keep controls and alarms powered through outages
Intrinsically safe float and flow inputs from the wet well
Outdoor stainless enclosure with heater
Full submittal package for USACE review
The ICR Solution
ICR designed and built a UL 508A listed pump control panel under its own UL file. A stainless steel enclosure with a swing-out dead front houses a main disconnect, a motor contactor and overload for the 2 HP submersible pump, and a manual transfer switch with a generator inlet for backup power. A 24 VDC UPS with battery keeps the controls and alarms alive during a power loss. Wet-well floats and the flow switch connect through an intrinsically safe relay, with sealed conduit runs. Fault logic annunciates high level, no flow, pump seal failure, motor overload, power loss and safety relay faults on a stack light and horn, with an hour meter, enclosure heater and service receptacle.

Results
ICR built the panel, wired it on site, installed it and started up the lagoon’s new tank pump, meeting the Corps of Engineers’ specifications and submittal review. Backup generator power is a switch throw away, alarms stay live through outages, and wet-well signals enter through intrinsically safe circuits. Six monitored faults tell operators exactly what needs attention, and the stainless enclosure stands up to the outdoor lagoon environment.
